TRACY SLOCUM

She Didn't Just Survive It. She Built Something.

She didn't just survive it. She built something.

I started my company because I was cold on a boat.

I know. Most people just go inside. I am not most people.

That small, annoying problem became Pretty Rugged, a luxury outdoor blanket brand that went from my kitchen table to Best in Market at the Javits Center, to Oprah's Favorite Things, to Shark Tank, where I got a deal with Robert Herjavec and Lori Greiner on national television.

Everyone saw what happened when I walked through those famous double doors. Almost nobody knows what happened after.

That is the story I tell on stages.

It runs in the family. My great-great-grandfather was Captain Joshua Slocum, the first person in history to sail alone around the world. He was fifty-one. He could not swim.

He went anyway.

"

Tracy doesn't just tell you what it takes to build something real — she makes you feel it. I've seen a lot of speakers. I've never seen a room go that quiet.

EVENT DIRECTOR, WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

"

She walked off that stage and half the room was in tears. The other half was already writing down their next move. That's the Tracy Slocum effect.
